Update: Click here for Series 1 Pack Odds
This is my first structured attempt to randomly distribute original print concert posters to interested collectors. I’ve decided to package up 1,600 11x17 telephone pole posters from the Ultrasounds collection and recirculate them blindly using a traditional “mystery box” (or mystery pack in this case) methodology.
This first group of posters is very special to me. It is a curation of 160 different posters, designed by Mike King and featured in his book - Maximum Plunder. The book showcases around 1,000 concert posters Mike King designed for shows across the Pacific Northwest from the late 1970’s through the early 2000’s. The posters featured in this book are some of the only “modern era” concert posters that are certifiable by CGC - the only company currently grading concert posters.
These are all original print concert posters that were never displayed as intended. Each poster is a file copy, and most are in excellent to near mint condition. The quantities packed vary by poster. There are no more than 20 copies packed of any poster. For some, only a single copy is available.
These 1,600 posters have been randomly divided into 400 different packs. Each pack contains 4 posters. Each poster comes in an 11x17 toploader that has a sticker on the back with extra information and a QR code to find its page here on posterpacks.com.
These packs will only be distributed at the GoCollect booth at FanExpo in Portland, Oregon between February 17-19, 2023. They will be priced at $100 each (or $25 per poster). These intentionally carry a low price per poster in the hope that they are easily recirculated to the collectors in and around Portland where Mike King originally created them. Mike King will be available at the booth and is willing to sign the first poster free of charge. There will also be a representative on hand to authenticate Mike King’s signature for CGC Signature Series submissions. All four of the posters in each pack is gradable by CGC and submissions can be made by a representative that will be available at the GoCollect booth.
Because we anticipate strong demand at the $100 price point, we are only releasing 100 packs per day at the convention. And we are asking that buyers limit themselves to 2 packs per day.
The remaining of the 400 packs will only be available within the Mike King Wonder Box, which is also only available for pick-up at the FanExpo in Portland. For convenience, there will be a pre-order online option available for at-convention pickup for 50 of the Wonder Boxes. Each is a beautifully crafted, hand screen printed, hand numbered creation by Mike King, limited to a total of 95 boxes. These are priced at $295 each and include an array of goodies inside 😉
There's an available forum thread for each of the 160 posters in the series. Each thread contains all sorts of additional information and is an open area to ask questions or provide feedback.
Experimental
This first series is part of a 2 series experiment. Please take a moment to learn more about recirculation and reserve methods here.
For this initial series, I cannot guarantee that all available copies were packed for each of the 160 available. As it stands, these are among the most desirable from the collection due to their recognition by third-parties like CGC. Once Series 2 is fully documented we will circle back to document total quantities remaining in the collection from Series 1 and reappropriate any remaining quantities, by poster, to a future series.
This series was assembled as part of a larger exhibit where GoCollect will demonstrate the Beta release of Crowd Theory. Crowd Theory will be enhanced through for the release of Series 2 and hopefully provide insight on costs and pack assemblies moving forward.
